More shearing
We finished with the shearing of the older ewes so we've started working on the yearlings. Besides shearing we are trimming hooves and tattooing them. That is a new experience, I'm not sure who is wearing more green, Raquel or me...
The tattoo is a number in her right ear that matches her registration with the National Tunis Sheep Registry. The big spot on her neck is where I squeezed out too much ink and it dripped on her. I decided to make a nice big X so we won't have any trouble telling her apart from the others for a while.

Exciting and busy weekend
We have been having an exciting weekend, I don't know if I can handle one more day. I need to go back to work to rest. ;-)
Friday morning we both went in to work early (4 a.m.) so we could leave at 9:30 to head for Oklahoma. There were thunderstorms all around, but at 9:30 they cleared on out and we had smooth sailing. We arrived in OKC about 2:30 and picked up the new Tunis sheep. Then turned around and came back home via Lewisville so we could eat supper with our son Jeff. We had a nice visit and showed him the new sheep (he wasn't near as excited as we are). He wasn't too happy, those thunderstorms had dropped golf ball sized hail on his little black Jetta and really messed it up. Bummer!
He had a hockey game to go to so we headed back off through Dallas, at least the traffic had died down while we ate supper with Jeff. We made it home about 9 p.m. and settled the sheep into the barn and fed all the other critters.
This morning we were up early again, Bob was off to work and I drove down to New Braunfels to judge the annual Mission City Cat Club show. It was a beautiful day and I had a nice time visiting with a lot of my "cat" friends.
I got home about 7:30 this evening and checked on my new sheep. Bob and I are very happy with them. Before we could get everyone fed, one of our mini mares decided it was time to have her foal. A beautiful buckskin colt, it's been a boy year! 3 out of 4 colts so far.

Spring has sprung and the horses are getting slick...
The draft girls have really slicked off, seems the bigger the horse, the faster they shed. Bob took lots of great photos while I was in New Braunfels judging a cat show. Freda's dun coat was sparkling in the sunshine today.

Even our quarter horse, Goldie is more "gold" this spring, and she will soon be a new mom.

New Tunis Sheep Arrive at Unicorner Farm
Thank you, Bob Bartholomew of Bar-B Farms in New York! Bob was kind enough to meet us in Oklahoma, so we now have a very handsome Tunis Ram! And we also bought two nice ewes, Granny and Mimi, who each have a ewe lamb at their side from Bob. Here is a photo of all five taken on their first day at Unicorner Farm:
This is the ram, he is just what we wanted! Nice body, clean legs and head, good color, attractive head shape and a good disposition. Now we need to come up with a call name for him. I think he is kind of "Regal" looking...
We will look forward to having some fall lambs out of our existing flock sired by our handsome new guy.

Time to shear!
Well, we finally decided to buy a set of sheep shears and a trimming stand since we have a LOT more to shear this year and the horse clippers really had to strain to do 8 last year. I found the clippers on Ebay from a seller in HongKong. It was very reasonably priced, though the shipping cost was pricey.
One of our ewes "Spring" was the first to get to try out both. Bob let me do the honors. The new clippers are BIG but they do the job! And the stand sure helps on the back strain.

Number Three Foal at Unicorner Farm
Our wonderful mini mare, Red Robin delivered another beautiful colt for us. Robin is super special because she was our very first miniature horse. Her new baby is sired by Lone Star and looks like he's gonna be a beauty!

Sweet Dreams goes to Georgia
Our beautiful overo filly, Unicorner Sweet Dreams went to her new home in Covington, Georgia. A big thank you to her new owner, Maria Duncan!
We miss Dreamer but know that she will get a lot more attention in her new home!
Easter Festivities
Well, I'm finally getting around to posting again, we had a delightful Easter. A wonderful, but cool Sunrise Service started the day. Breakfast at church with an Easter program and egghunt for the children. Then normal Sunday service and over to my cousin's for lunch.
After lunch, the grownups had a fun time hiding the eggs (including being creative with the yucca plant) and the kids had a good time getting ready to hunt making up games while we were busy outside. We may have done too good a job of hiding since leftover eggs were still being found this past Sunday!
